Burberry Resort 2012 – All in the details

Established brands like Burberry face a challenge with every new collection that’s presented. They have to be prepared each season to take their best-known piece and reinvent it every time. Burberry known all over the world for their trench coats and plaid pattern, that translates to luxe, are faced with making a traditional cut coat into something that’s evolved into something fresh and exciting. For Resort 2012, Burberry embraced their timeless piece, but added some fun colors and striking accents that make your first Burberry trench look a tad outdated. A bright turquoise, a red leather, a punch of yellow, a denim blue and a rich magenta liven up the Burberry statement piece with some invigorating colors and fabrics. They also didn’t ignore the accents like the white buttons, the animal skin trim, thinner and opposite colored belts, reversible liners and contrasting trims.

Burberry known for outerwear has also been able to tackle the design for a piece you could wear underneath your favorite coat. So that whether you’re just making your entrance or making your last impression of the night, your look is perfect with or without your coat on. Burberry plays with a-line silhouettes with light dresses and high-waisted pencil skirts. A look built on a beautiful contrast of a soft and flirty dress and a structured and tailored coat.

A bright and light yellow knee-length dress with long sleeves and a cinched waist is a beautiful addition that could be worn under the chocolate-brown trench it’s shot with. There is also a beautiful white, high collared silk dress with a deep plunging v-neck and bold shoulders that would pair nicely with the striking red leather trench. The collection all together is styled beautifully with fun clutches of all colors and patterns and pumps with a hint of a tribal theme with straps made of beads and heels adding a punch of bright color.

Holy jewelry box in heaven, where have I been? On the 14th floor at the fabulous St. Regis hotel, lives a 1,400 square foot Tiffany & Co. themed hotel suite. The recognizable robin-egg Tiffany blue dresses the 1-bedroom suite, while silver and crystal accents make the room twinkle a little more. The deco chrome mirrors and floor to ceiling windows, make for a super chic experience, that will only cost you $8,500 a night. That’s all. A fee Holly Golightly would have some trouble coughing over. Who can afford these swanky hotel stays? We should be friends and have sleepovers. I’ll bring the nail polish and dvd’s, you just pay the hotel bill. That seems fair. Either way, you have to love this room, which I hope stays for around long enough to see it on a flash sale site for 40% off. Then maybe my twenty friends and I can afford the 1-night stay. Proenza Schouler’s 2012 Resort Collection is definitely for the younger crowd. With a hipster vibe, taking a page from the pre-fall ethnic patterns and earthy colors, is a quick trip to the Canyon. The cuts and tailoring are on a couture level, especially seen in the Baja cropped jacket. Stems of long legs were the main focus, highlighted by shorts, skirts and dresses with buttoned up long sleeve tops. The Navajo statement pieces, part of Proenza’s beautiful accessories top off the young look. I love the mix of patterns and patchwork that fit together seamlessly. Another amazing display of artistry from Proenza.

Donna Karen Monochrome Resort Simplicity 2012

While exotic and colorful prints have taken over the runway and flowy feminine gowns resurface in time for resort season, Donna Karen takes a simple and monochrome approach to her 2012 Resort Collection. It’s no wonder she calls it her Body Forms Collection. The sportswear, skin-tight looks make for a formal informal look. White, silver, red and black make a bold and strong statement with a simple red lip and hair pulled back. With structured lines and cuts, deep plunging necklines and asymmetrical cuts off the shoulder, the collection is a beautiful masterpiece of well executed pieces.

For a woman like me, who fears jeans, embraces dresses and has no problem being over dressed for any occasion, I can’t give enough praise to Zac Posen for his latest Resort collection. The fitting long dresses, with sweet heart necklines, rich dark and light colors, with their mermaid trains that show off the beauty of women’s curves capture my heart and take my breath away. The simple sheer peeking out and subtle fringe compliment the gorgeous silhouette. My money is already on a few celebrity stars wearing these down the red carpet. The white number is my favorite and I wish I could stash it away for the day I convince myself to marry. But with my little patience, I’d find some odd reason to break it out and wear to the park. Louis Vuitton presented a Parisian whimsical collection for this resort season. The darling looks all accessorized and styled with a feminine touch are an easy resort wear. Designer Marc Jacobs took to the traditional red, white and blue and add touches of fantasy and fun. Motorcycle helmets and riding hats top off some of the looks. Swimsuits and one piece suits rounded out the collection to make for a well-rounded resort line.
